Check out these super cute and colourful icons by designer – Savannah Holder. A great way to approach any spot illustration icon set is to choose a winning colour palette! And she certainly nailed it in my opinion! I love the subtle shadows, adding just the right amount of detail to this brilliant set. I think you’ll all agree that that pear is a juicy addition to this wonderful collection. This set was produced for a client through the design studio she works for. I’d check them out too!

I think it would be wise if you all went and checked out more of Savannah’s work here!

They’ve been designed for a new up coming pioneering app. Me thinks I want to download it when it’s complete just to admire the UI!! I just love the colour palette used and the rustic feel to the shapes and edges. Really gives these icons a unique look. Ann Lu’s really showing off her style well with this lot!

Markus Magnusson - Vodafone icons

Oh boy, where do I start with this colourful set of icon by designer Markus Magnusson. Produced for Vodafone. Makes me really want to go out and sign up! He’s done an amazing job using a limited colour palette to illustrate the little fruit character being involved in the different activities! The strokeless illustrations really blend well together with the colours chosen for these. There are in fact more illustrations to this project. I think you’d be wise to go check them out!

And why not check out Markus’s other design work. (2 words….TOO COOL)

Icon Spotlight – Mads Burcharth

These fantastic, single stroke weight icons were designed for an article on being successful. I think they convey that message very well indeed. Designer Mads Burcharth is a big inspiration to myself and I’m sure in the design world too. His icon work is brilliantly simple and subtly detailed. A perfect balance of simplicity throughout the designs. I think personally my favourite of this set has to the treasure chest (though I do enjoy a pirate themed anything!) the 2 dimensional ‘3D’ effect on the left hand side really sells it for me.

Why not check out more of Mads Burcharth’s work here! Be warned, his website is amazing too!

Resource Review – Iconfinder

resourses, reviews

There are a good handful of icon resources out there, some out in the open, some hidden like treasure just waiting to be discovered. You just have to really look for them. This website is out there though. Iconfinder is a great resource for any UI designer and creative alike! With over 300,000 icons to search from you’ll be hard pushed not to find the one you’re looking for. Created by Martin LeBlanc a designer from Copenhagen now a 5 strong team. In my eye’s they’ve done a really good job of pulling off a brilliant icon treasure chest available to all!

If you dig icons as much as me, this website is a must for your bookmarks! Check it out and don’t forget to check out the weekly updated blog too. (I was featured under Icons of the Week #47 *wink*) It’s packed full of designy goodness covering a broad spectrum of mediums!

These minimal icons were designed for a new animation app, designed for users to create app animations. (tongue twister!) See more here and sign up for notifications. Personally I love Zach’s work. His use of shapes and simplicity throughout his icon work blows my mind! This set perfectly depict each of the individual actions and functions they set out to! The use of colour and stroke weight really work well to complete each one.

I think you should all go have a nose at Zach’s brilliant works now! He’s a real inspiration to the icon world and myself!

Tools of the Trade – Icon Resource Website

This website is new the game but has some great potential to be a perfect place to download free icon packs! They even offer an email update each time they have a new pack up for download. I mean, who can grumble at FREE anything!! Especially when they’re as amazing and bold as these icons. I think there will probably be a particular theme to the style used with the icons you can find here, but everyone has their own preference and style type and with as many things out there to make and create digitally, you shouldn’t be limiting yourself to one area of design. Expand, experiment, use different elements to create and express your amazing talents.

In summary, this site is definitely one to keep in the bookmarks and periodically check back to or even sign up for emails to. A real tasty treat for your eyeballs to feast upon.

Logan Faerber is a designer and illustrator from Boston, MA. His work is so diverse, applying himself to various styles of design but still with his own unique style! I really enjoyed this icon set he produced of human body organs. The mix of really bold lines with subtle details have these icons depicting exactly what they are. The heart is my personal favourite! He actually produced these for FREE download to all designers and creatives alike looking to add them to personal projects. You can find them here.

A short review of the linked website will be coming soon too, it’s a fairly new place to find icon sets that tickle all kinds of fancies!

Some masterful animated icons here for you to feast your eyes on by the very talented Roy Veldkamp. His bold and simplistic style really lend themselves to the free flowing animation. I actually really like the use of dropped opacity and overlapping lines! These and more have been designed for  a print company website (the lucky so and so’s!).

Why not check out more from this set and Roy’s other project work here!

Icon Spotlight – Dmitri Litvinov

Check these fresh and vibrant icons out. I’m a really big fan of Designer Dmitri Litvinov’s icon work, there’s a very distinct style and tone shown in his design method.  He has really made the icons featured above pop in my eyes, with a really simple single weight stroke and 2 color pallette. I also really like the use of the rounded capped strokes along side flat capped strokes. These were produced for a website project he has been working on called postach.io (brilliant use of the top level domain I might add).
